The FNC rifle, initially relatively unknown outside military circles, gained popularity after being featured in the movie Heat. Developed by Belgian arms manufacturer FN Herstal in the late 1970s, the FN FNC (Fabrique Nationale Carabine) is a 5.56x45mm NATO assault rifle. It was designed as a cost-effective alternative to the M16 rifle and was developed for NATO standardization trials between 1975 and 1977.

The FNC's design is based on the FNC 76 prototype, which itself was derived from the commercially unsuccessful FN CAL rifle. The prototype performed poorly in the NATO competition due to rushed development and was subsequently withdrawn. However, despite its reception with NATO, the rifle was adopted by several countries, including Belgium, its country of origin. More recently, FNC rifles have gained attention as they were sent as military aid to the Ukrainian military from Belgium during the Russo-Ukrainian War.

The Cybergun FNC GBBR is a fully licensed replica of Belgium's standard service rifle. The rifle features a sturdy construction, with most parts made of steel, either CNC steel or stamped steel. The pistol grip and handguard have polymer components with aluminum reinforcements. The airsoft variant faithfully replicates the features of the real FNC, including a folding stock and a "gas cut-off switch." While the airsoft version cannot fire rifle grenades, the gas cut-off switch also serves as the rear sight for grenades. The attention to detail is notable, as VFC and Cybergun have ensured that every aspect of the real FNC is replicated in this airsoft version.

The internal mechanism of the Cybergun FNC is also made of steel, providing durability and realism. The FNC has various firing modes, including a 3-round burst option, with a selector similar to that of the Type 89 and SIG 550 series, rotating in a full circle.

Though the FNC has limited options for mounting accessories due to its older design, VFC offers a range of first-party accessories that provide additional mounting options. Nevertheless, the FNC's original appearance is highly regarded, likely due to its association with Al Pacino's character in the movie Heat. The airsoft version of the FNC uses standard VFC V3 M4/AR-15 series gas airsoft magazines, as it is based on the 5.56mm weapon that accepts standard STANAG magazines used in M4/AR-15 rifles. Additionally, the dry fire feature available on the magazines translates to the Cybergun FNC, allowing users to dry fire the rifle.
